• Cockroaches are among some of the oldest species on Earth, having been around for approximately 350 million years.
• There are a wide variety of cockroach types, and all are highly adaptable with extremely quick reproduction times.

• Cockroaches are omnivorous and will eat anything they can get access to.
• A cockroach’s egg sack is called an ootheca. Eggs will incubate inside the sack, and young cockroaches, or nymphs, will emerge after hatching.

About the German Cockroach

• They are generally about half an inch in length, are tan-colored, and have two black stripes on their head region.
• Though they have wings, they cannot fly.
• One of the most common types of cockroaches.
• They will usually inhabit an area that allows for easy access to water, such as a kitchen or bathroom.
• They are drawn to humid environments with warm temperatures.
• They are nocturnal, meaning they are active at night.
• They will reproduce at all times throughout the year.
• Females carry the egg sack during the incubation of their young. Each case holds between 24-48 cockroaches.
• They can produce an egg sack about once every six weeks. It takes approximately 28 for the eggs to hatch.

About the American Cockroach

• The American cockroach is the largest species of cockroach, growing up to one and a half inches in length.
• They have a red-brown color with tan markings on their head region.
• These cockroaches glue their oothecae (egg sacks) to surfaces. Each sack holds about 6-14 young.
• They are capable of producing an egg sack once a week. During a lifetime, a female can produce 15-90 egg sacks. Each egg sack takes about 50 – 55 days to hatch.
• They may begin to infest homes when outdoor weather conditions become intense.

About Oriental Cockroaches

• These are large very dark reddish brown, almost black, shiny cockroaches which live in dark, damp, cool areas such as sewers and similar wet, decaying organic matter.
• Males are about 1 inch long, with wings that cover only about ¾ of their body.
• Females are about 1 ¼ inch long and have only short stubs of wing pads.
• Females produce approximately eight egg cases in their lifetime.
• Each egg case contains about 16 eggs.
• Eggs hatch in about 60 days.
• Development time from egg to adult is 575 to 600 days.
• Adults live one to six months.
